Dr. Rebecca Affoo is a Speech-Language Pathologist and an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Dalhousie University. She is cross appointed to the School of Dental Hygiene in the Faculty of Dentistry. She is affiliated with the Healthy Populations Institute and is a co-lead of the Flagship project “oral health is health”. Her research is focused on advancing understanding of the interrelationships between oral health and oropharyngeal swallowing to help older adults maintain adequate nutritional intake, decrease the risk of developing morbidities such as aspiration pneumonia and conditions such as frailty, and improve quality of life. She is also passionate about evidence-based education and student learning.


Theodore Suh, MD, PhD

Dr. Theodore (Ted) Suh is the ACU Medical Director for the Turner Geriatrics Clinic at the University of Michigan East Ann Arbor Medical Campus and Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine for the University of Michigan Medical School. Currently, he serves as a member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Formulary Committee and is Treasurer of the Michigan Geriatrics Society. He has also been a member of the Primary Care Leadership Council for Michigan Medicine. Previously, Dr. Suh served as the first Medical Director for Huron Valley PACE (Program for All-inclusive Care of the Elderly) in Ypsilanti, MI.

Dr. Zylberglait has a supportive husband, parents, sister, friends, and two wonderful little boys that help her to integrate her personal and professional life.

Professor Gerry McKenna

Gerry McKenna qualified as a dentist at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom, in 2004. After working in a number of dental hospitals and spending time in dental practice he completed his PhD and higher specialist clinical training in University College Cork, Ireland. He currently works as a Consultant in Prosthodontics and Restorative Dentistry in Queens University Belfast where he provides clinical supervision and teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate dental students. His clinical work is focused on fixed and removable prosthodontics including managing older adults in both hospital and private practice. Gerry is an active clinical researcher based within the Centre for Public Health in Queens University Belfast where he leads oral health research. He is president elect of the British Society of Gerodontology and a past President of both the Geriatric Oral Research Group of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the European College of Gerodontology (ECG). His research is centered on optimizing treatment options for older adults which positively impact their dental and overall health. This is supported by over £10 million in competitive research funding secured from funders including the National Institute of Healthcare Research (NIHR), Erasmus + and the Dunhill Medical Trust. Gerry is both a fellow and a King James IV Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Gerry is an adjunct Professor in University College Cork.
